Hey everyone,
It’s been a while since I sent out one of these, and I apologize for the long hiatus. In March, my wife gave birth to the most beautiful baby I’ve ever seen. In June, I left my job. In July I got COVID for the first (and hopefully last) time. Oh, and I started a new job later that month.
Whew.
Life is good, but I’ve been pumping the brakes on things that don’t necessarily demand my full attention, and unfortunately, that has meant this newsletter.
I promise I’ll be back soon. But in the meantime, please feel free to send your favorite links my way!
Just for good measure, here are a couple of things I’ve been enjoying, in no particular order:
Andor on Disney+ : A brilliant prequel to the film Rogue One, we’re just a few episodes in, and it’s already one of my favorite branches of the Star Wars tree. It’s like you can feel the hands of The Galactic Empire closing around our the necks of our heroes, and the lines of good and bad are often blurred here. Check it out if you can. The first four episodes are streaming now on Disney+.
Turn on AMC: This one has been out since 2015, and there are only three seasons. But if you liked the John Adams series on HBO, you’ll probably like this. It’s a lightly fictionalized retelling of how George Washington and the continental army used a new network of spies to infiltrate and defeat the British during the American Revolution. The trailer I linked here doesn't do the show justice, but it’s the best I could find.
All the World: Since our daughter was born, we’re always looking for good board books to read with her. This one is my absolute favorite. A brilliant poem in its own right, the sweeping illustrations dig deep into your heart as you read. It’s hard not to get choked up when you read it with a baby on your lap.
Libraries: Speaking of books, I feel like the reflex to buy new books online since COVID began has pulled us away from an incredible resource in almost every neighborhood: Libraries. If you don’t already, go get a library card and spend a few minutes looking for your next book before heading to Amazon.
Cream Soda: In my happy place, I’m sitting under a shade tree sipping an ice cold cream soda. Call me old fashioned…or just old. I don’t care. It’s delicious. Don’t sleep on Virgils Vanilla Cream Soda from Whole Foods.
Lemon wafers: Ok, this is getting ridiculous. I promise I’m not sending this newsletter from a 1940’s five and dime. A friend brought over some lemon wafers to a game night, and I haven’t stopped thinking about them since. Go get some and taste for yourself!
Alright. That’s it for now. Have a great month, and I hope to see you in your inboxes soon.
With gratitude,
-Brady
